Microlife BodyGem and MedGem indirect calorimeters

Does Ozempic Affect Resting Metabolic Rate – RMR?

The active ingredient in Ozempic is semaglutide, which works by inducing satiety. This feeling of being satisfied or “full”, suppresses appetite, which causes people to eat less, resulting in weight loss.

It’s not affecting the thyroid which could reduce a person’s RMR. And it’s not acting as a stimulant which would increase metabolism.

Suppressing appetite reduces the amount of food a person eats, which reduces body fat, causing RMR to decrease.

The effects of Ozempic may cause people to not eating enough calories, which could affect muscle mass as the body seeks to lower its metabolic rate.

The drug doesn’t seem to affect metabolism directly, but the weight loss changes from using the drug will affect RMR. This is why Ozempic users should get their RMR measured regularly, to track changes and adjust their Daily Calorie Budget.
